The Historic EyeWear Company evolved out of my lifelong fascination with the Civil War, the Old West, my career as an Optician and the simple notion, "My modern eyeglasses don't match any of my hats!"
At Historic EyeWear Company, our mission is to produce ophthalmic quality, period-correct eyeglass frames and cases that are accurate reproductions of original antique spectacles, and to educate those interested by providing primary source information regarding antique spectacles.
Fitting lenses to our spectacle frames is as easy as removing a screw. We offer our customers the genuine look of the past, with the durability, comfort, improved fit and increased field of vision of modern eyeglasses.
Our reproduction spectacle frames are prescription-ready, will securely hold lenses, will retain their adjustment and hold up to full-time wear.
Problems normally associated with antique spectacles, including lack of availability, nonexistent replacement parts, fragility due to age, size constraints and discomfort are a thing of past as are the difficulties associated with edging and inserting lenses into antique spectacle frames. Designed for men and women, to suit all sights, just like the original antique spectacle frames they were modeled after, our spectacle frames are made for everyday wear. Lens changes are easily achieved, allowing for frame reuse as prescription changes are required
Collaboration with dedicated researchers, authors, collectors and ophthalmic historians enable us to eliminate the confusion associated with the identification of antique spectacle timelines allowing our customers to channel the past, capturing that last, until now, elusive detail to complete their period-correct outfits.
Many eyewear companies look to the past for inspiration. They use elements from antique spectacles and mix and match these elements to create a retro look. We bring all of these elements together to recreate historically accurate models.
Unlike other optical companies whose styles are inspired by the biggest names in the fashion industry, Historic EyeWear Company models are inspired by the greatest names in modern history.
We are proud to offer our first models of reproduction antique eyewear, part of our American Frontier Series, evoking images of both famous and infamous Americans from our celebrated past. Native Americans, trailblazers, mountain men, frontiersmen and women, pioneers, miners, Forty-Niners, railroad men, sailors, whaling men, soldiers of the Mexican-American and Civil Wars, cowboys, cowgirls, scoundrels, lawmen and outlaws...you know their names. Now you can view the past just as they did.
