Historic EyeWear Company Clear, Tinted and Sunglass lenses offerings
Our sunglass lenses are available in Tru-Grey/Neutral Grey which is the same color as 1800s London Smoke, and Brown, matching the post 1872 dark amber in both polarized and non polarized versions. Lens colors are incorporated into the lenses at time of manufacture. These lenses reduce visible light entering the eye by approximately 80% which is standard for a true sunglass.
Grey-Green (G-15) Lenses originally designed for Pilots by Baush & Lomb reduce visible light entering the eye by approximately 85% and are available in a non polarized version.
Polarized lenses are superior to non polarized lenses for reduction of reflected glare.
Fisherman, Boaters, Skiers etc. will benefit from the reduced glare and added comfort that polarized lenses afford.
The downside of polarized lenses affect the wearers’ ability to view electronic displays.
Non polarized lenses are available in the same colors and have the same light reducing ability as the polarized version, without the glare reducing ability. Non polarized lenses will not interfere with smart phones, electronic bike displays, gas pump displays, smart watches etc.
All lenses of any color or color density offer 98-100% UV protection.
Tinted lenses are available in several colors (See color chart). Clear lenses are soaked in a dye bath. The longer the soak time the darker the lens color. Typical tinted lens light reduction is approximately 20% for a light tint, 40% for a medium tint and 70% for a dark tint.
Light tints are are fashionable and present a pleasing appearance while offering some comfort from bright light indoors but no real protection outdoors.
Medium tints are are fashionable and present a pleasing appearance while offering some comfort and protection outdoors but indoors the reduction of visible light may be uncomfortable for some wearers.
Dark tints are for outdoor use and offer the best protection and greater comfort than lighter versions. All lenses of any color or color density offer 98-100% UV protection.
